Boneshaker (Frances Bodomo, 2016)

“New York-based director Frances Bodomo’s breakout film Boneshaker tells the story of a young girl who is taken to a Louisiana church in the hopes of banishing the evil spirits her parents believe possess her. Starring Annie and 12 Years a Slave actress Quvenzhané Wallis, the film focuses on the feelings of homelessness, landlessness, and rootlessness —subjects close to filmmaker Bodomo’s heart, who grew up in constant motion, moving from Ghana to Norway, to Hong Kong, to the USA.”
